Sancti Spíritus needs to promote and organize the production and marketing of coal
Faced with prolonged power outages and a shortage of liquefied gas, charcoal has become an indispensable resource for cooking in Sancti Spíritus households, despite being neither convenient nor cheap. In this context, the provincial government is promoting a strategy to stimulate its production in the state sector and organize its marketing.
José Martínez, coordinator of government programs and objectives in Sancti Spíritus, explained that in addition to companies traditionally dedicated to charcoal production for export—such as Forestal Integral, Flora y Fauna, and Agroindustrial de Granos Sur del Jíbaro—the intention is to generate this production in all entities through a foreign currency financing scheme.
