Local development projects favored the increase of economic actors
The 109 local development projects currently underway in the province of Sancti Spíritus fostered growth in several economic sectors in 2025 and reaffirmed the region’s capacity to diversify services, generate employment, and strengthen vulnerable communities. According to Daisel García Bello, Director of Territorial Development for the Provincial Government, each new project represents an opportunity for municipalities to strengthen their autonomy and develop their own solutions to their needs.
“We managed to increase the number of approved local development projects thanks to the decentralized powers now held by the municipalities. While we may have fallen slightly short in collecting contributions from these projects into the territorial funds of each municipality, they have still made a contribution as part of our social responsibility to the government and social institutions, which has been important from both an economic and social perspective.”
