Sancti Spíritus medical collaboration reaffirms its humanist and solidarity commitment

Nearly 750 healthcare workers from the province of Sancti Spíritus are currently serving in 33 countries as part of Cuban medical collaboration, a program that continues to have Venezuela as the destination with the largest number of contributors.

According to Idania Pérez Lugo, head of the Provincial Department of Collaboration at the General Directorate of Health, there is also a significant presence of professionals from Sancti Spíritus in Qatar, Angola, Algeria, and Mexico, where more than 100 are currently working.

“We are currently represented in 33 countries, but there has always been cooperation throughout the years. We have been developing this collaborative activity in countries both in Latin America and in the rest of the world. Today we have 743 collaborators.

“The largest number of our collaborators are in Venezuela. We also have a significant number of collaborators in Qatar, Angola, Algeria, and Mexico, which is the most recent mission we began and where we have a large presence. We have more than 100 collaborators in Mexico today.”

Pérez Lugo emphasized that the greatest satisfaction for healthcare workers from Sancti Spíritus is returning home with a sense of duty fulfilled and the certainty of having served those most in need.

“We have been developing this collaboration for over 60 years, since Cuba began providing medical assistance, and I believe there has been representation from Sancti Spíritus since the very beginning. Everything has gone smoothly, and everyone returns with the satisfaction of a job well done. That is the goal we set for ourselves, and I believe that is what everyone feels when they return home—happy and content.”

The medical collaboration from Sancti Spíritus, currently present in 33 countries, reaffirms the humanist and solidarity-based commitment that has distinguished Cuban public health worldwide for more than six decades.
