Sancti Spíritus pays homage to Martí with the March of the Torches

Under the slogan “A fire always young”, students, young people and the people of Sancti Spiritus paid tribute to José Martí in the traditional March of the Torches, on the eve of the 172nd anniversary of his birth to be commemorated this January 28.

The march was led by the member of the Central Committee of the Party and First Secretary in the province Deivy Pérez Martín, Alexis Lorente Jiménez, Governor of the Provincial Government, Ekaterina Gowen Dikinson, also a member of the Central Committee and Secretary of the Cuban Workers Central in the province and Raima Lascaiba Remetería, member of the Provincial Bureau of the Union of Young Communists.

The vice-president of the University Student Federation (FEU) of the University of Sancti Spiritus José Martí, Ángeles Cristina Valdivia Santana, in the words that started the massive March, stressed that this is an opportunity to demonstrate to the world the unity of a people that keeps alive the ideas of the most universal of Cubans.

In each of the municipal capitals, the traditional March of the Torches took place in unison, a journey that illuminated the main streets of each territory as an endorsement of the youth to the Cuban Revolution and its main leaders.

On this occasion, the event was motivated by the 172nd anniversary of the birth of José Martí, the 130th anniversary of his fall in combat at Dos Ríos, the 72nd anniversary of the first March and the enduring example of its protagonists, the Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution, the Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution, the Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution, the Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution and the Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution.
