Interesting Orchid Garden near the Sea in Caguanes National Park

From the amortization area of ​​the Caguanes National Park (PNC), at its western end, in the northern municipality of Yaguajay comes the interesting note: there an interesting orchid garden of the Encyclia Phoenicea species shows its best robustness.

“This is the largest and best preserved colony of orchids on the northern coast, located near the community of Júcaro, said Yitsy Suárez Valdés, director of Mountain Ecosystem Research at the province’s Environmental Services Center.

But the note regains interest because in addition to the population of orchids, the yanal shows dozens of adult and young specimens of the cactus known as Queen of the Night (Epiphyllum oxypetalum) extended from its trunks and branches, distinguished by its spectacular nocturnal flowering. , with a pleasant vanilla smell.

This entire panorama can be seen just over a hundred meters from the sea, in a natural yana plantation of appreciable vitality thanks to the environmental management and protection actions that the farmer Nelson Ríos and his family have carried out on the farm since 2017.

The excessive exploitation of the resources of the mangrove and the coastal strip was put to an end and this conditioned the recovery, development and better future for the orchidarium and the entire ecosystem, one of the many elements that encourage research in that place, with important transformations. in just over five years.
