System of protected areas is growing in Sancti Spíritus

The change of management categories for the highest distinctions, as well as the files to incorporate new ones, are some of the elements to be highlighted.
According to the sub-delegate of Environment in the province, Master Néstor Álvarez Cruz, raising the quality of the Protected Areas System is fundamental.
The first line, well, in submitting dossiers for the rivers, that is, for the deltas, for the Agabama and Iguanojo rivers, to enter into the administration of these two areas, which would be two wildlife refuges, which we would have in the south of the province, in two important rivers that have deltas that, well, preserve a group of natural characteristics to be protected.
The natural values to be protected, as well as preserving the history and landscape from the tourist point of view, represent ways of self-sustainability and a source of income.
There is only one national park in the territory.
We are currently working to present a dossier that will allow us to raise the category of national park to Lomas de Banao Ecological Reserve.
In this case, we are expanding the area, the protected area, integrating the entire Caballete de Casas zone, near Pedrero, and that raises the cultural and historical levels of the area, and that would allow us to present a national park to the country.
