Sancti Spíritus against COVID-19: Active Surveillance of Travelers from Havana and Matanzas Intensifies

After more than a month without reporting positive cases to COVID-19, Sancti Spíritus intensifies the epidemiological surveillance of travelers arriving from abroad and from Havana and Matanzas, territories that still continue to register people infected with the new coronavirus.

Dr. Manuel Rivero Abella, provincial director of Health, reported that the last cases considered suspected of suffering from the disease, specifically, one from Trinidad and three from Jatibonico, have come from these two western provinces.

Rivero Abella explained that these suspicious people and their contacts are kept in isolation and real-time PCR studies have been carried out.

In two cases the result was negative as it was known on the afternoon of this Saturday, while awaiting the results of the remaining two.

At the moment, containment measures are reinforced at border points with other provinces that operate in the territory, with the aim of having a strict control of travelers entering and leaving the province and, consequently, proceeding properly. with those who have feverish and respiratory symptoms.

Any person entering the province must be under epidemiological surveillance at home for 14 days and will be followed by the family doctors and nurse, who, in the event of any symptoms, will proceed as protocolized.

Finally, Dr. Rivero Abella recalled that all prevention measures are few, if the circulation of the virus in our country and the number of asymptomatic positive cases that are still counted in Havana are taken into account.
